This course supports implementation of the NIMART mentorship training package in the Western Cape. It is a prerequisite for mentors training and forms part of the portfolio of evidence (POE) for NIMART mentees.

This course does not certify you as NIMART authorised, or as a NIMART mentor. 

It forms one component of the process. This process is outlined in the NIMART Implementation Manual available from the PDC as part of the NIMART training package.

Course curriculum

This Online Component of NIMART uses case scenarios and quizzes to cover 15 of the 38 competencies needed to complete the NIMART authorisation process for mentees. 

The cases cover the following content:

  1. Gloria: Symptoms leading to HIV diagnosis, ART initiation and prophylaxis
  2. Rivania: Mouth symptom, HIV diagnosis cervical screen and contraception
  3. Philisiwe: HIV routine care, TB diagnosis and routine care, DTG adjustment and peripheral neuropathy
  4. Tishen: HIV routine care, respiratory tract infection, COVID-19 and TB integration
  5. Marcia: PEP for sexual assault
  6. Tamryn: HIV diagnosis, VTP, antenatal and postnatal care
  7. Nick: Managing unsuppressed viral load and rash, adherence support and virological failure
  8. Norman: Treatment interruption and managing an unsuppressed viral load on ALD2
  9. Luanda: HIV diagnosis and ART initiation, BMI calculation, nutritional support and deterioration
  10. Anton: PrEP, male circumcision, STI and reactive RPR


The quizzes cover the following content:

  1. Client education, HIV testing, ART initiation, TPT, CPT and contraception
  2. Drug interactions, associated neurological conditions and opportunistic infections
  3. PEP, VTP, infant feeding and postnatal care
  4. ART side effects, adherence, resistance prevention and managing unsuppressed VL
  5. Opportunistic infections, STIs, male circumcision, HIV PrEP
